Planned Giving

For almost four decades the Southern Environmental Law Center has successfully championed the South’s air, water, and natural treasures. Thanks to generous annual support from individuals and families who care about this special region, we have built the largest, most powerful advocacy organization in the South – a top-notch law and policy team that works effectively at the national, regional, state, and local levels and in all three branches of government to get the job done.

Our kind of advocacy often requires determination, flexibility, and good old-fashioned staying power. In any particular case or project, it is not uncommon for us to win in one arena – say, in the courts – only to have our opponents switch to the legislature to try to pass a law that would undo our progress. SELC’s team must be nimble over time to move the ball forward. Many of our projects play out over decades. We are seeking legacy funds to ensure that SELC will be here for the long-term, capable and vigilant, serving as environmental defender for future generations. Above all, we hope you are inspired to leave a lasting legacy that will continue this important work long after your lifetime.

Retirement account

Did you know that if loved ones inherit retirement funds like your IRA, the value of their inheritance will likely be reduced due to income tax and possible estate tax? Naming SELC as a beneficiary of your retirement account is a smart and easy way to make a legacy gift. Protect the environment with your IRA, pension plan or 401(k) by naming the Southern Environmental Law Center as a beneficiary on your designation form.

Recently I cut through the clutter of my will to place two bequests into the opening paragraph; the first is to the Southern Environmental Law Center. This is because I know SELC’s people and their commitment, their hearts and their passion for excellence. I know that some battles last a decade or more against opponents with unlimited resources.
